When Gym Workouts Were a Thing #1

Remember when working out in a gym was a thing?  Thought I’d start a #flashbackfriday video series until the gyms open, or until I run out of videos, whichever comes first.

Working out at home isn’t the same. It just isn’t.  There are only so many jumping jacks, burpees, and high knees I can do.  I miss lifting heavy at a steady pace and making progress. I cringe when I see the muscle I worked so hard to build deteriorate.  It’s depressing.  My body composition has changed substantially.  Dumbbells can never replace the machines and cables. I think you need a nice balance of all types of equipment to make “gains”.

Our region is still under strict lockdown measures with only retail being allowed open with occupancy limits. Gyms and restaurants are still closed.  By the sounds of it, and because of this damn variant, it doesn’t look like things are going to open up anytime soon.

I can’t just sit around and wait for the gyms to open for me to do something, so I really need to hunker down, pick a workout program that I can do from home, and get to it.

Last night, I came across a post on my IG that really bothered me.  Because the effects of the lockdown are starting to affect me mentally, I sounded off on my IG stories, which I never do.  I don’t regret it.  It doesn’t sit well with me that I’ve been following the lockdown orders while others have not and are blatantly posting videos for all to see.  It’s the equivalent of a slap in the face.  I may be on the lookout for a new gym.
