Review-Born Primitive

I came across Born Primitive activewear in an Instagram ad, so I decided to check out the website to see what they had to offer.

For this purchase, I didn’t take advantage of any sales.  I just thought I’d treat myself to a Christmas/Boxing Day gift. From me to me.  🙂

I ended up ordering the Your Go-To Leggings 2.0 in Navy in size Medium.  These 7/8-length leggings are made of 70% nylon and 30% spandex.  They are high waisted, form fitting, with a wide waistband.  These tights retail for $75 CDN.

These leggings are pretty comfortable and are very similar in stretch in comparison to the Jed North tights I reviewed here. The compression is acceptable; however, it will betray severe bloat (which is my everyday reality).  Again, as with the Jed North leggings, they are not very forgiving when it comes to hiding cellulite on my behind and hamstrings.  I can see my lumps and bumps. If anything, it’s a little less noticeable with these tights because of the darker colour.

One thing that bothered me about these leggings was the that the waistband rolls down.  During my workout, I had to constantly keep pulling my pants up and unrolling.  I’m not sure if this is a problem with people that have solid abs or less belly fat.  I hold all my extra weight around my midsection and hips.

Also, I’m not sure if ordering a size up would solve this problem, but I feel that a Medium fit me perfectly.  I’d be worried that a Large might be a regrettable purchase.  So, my option is to live with the roll down action on a Medium or risk a Large being too large.

The leggings are not squat proof.  They thin out when bent over.

In summary, below is my overall rating:

Quality: 8
Comfort: 7 (the waistband rolling down brings the rating down)
Compression: 8
Squat Proof: 6
Price Point: 5

I also purchased the Intensity Sport Bra in Avalanche in Medium.  The bra is made of 87% nylon and 13% lycra.  Removeable pads are included.  The bra retails for $60 CDN.

I was pleasantly surprised with this bra. I love the criss-cross straps.

This bra is very comfortable in that it provides enough coverage that you’re not at risk of exposure.  It’s also a little bit longer, which covers a good part of the midsection.

I will probably purchase more leggings from this brand, but it will most likely not be from the Your Go-To Collection.  I would also like to order another bra, because they have quite a few cute ones.

    1. I would classify these as see-through. If you’re just standing, they’re great. But if you bend over or even sit down (across the quads)…if the material has to stretch to accommodate your movement, it becomes sheer.
